B : - You wanna know my true opinion ? Fashion. That was new, humankind has always loved what is new. Once it was invented, it spread as quickly as the shoulder pads in the 80's. It's awful, absolutely not useful and yet, everybody wore it. Fashion.
I : - There are always some people who don't like what is new. Mankind can be extremely conservative.
B : - Yeah, of course, the old ones. And who dominates the ages pyramid in a prejenerian population ? Not-conservative-at-all 15-35 year-old guys. Believe me. Fashion.
J'ai eu cette conversation dans un pub irlandais à Paris après un Irlande-France (le rugby mène à tout, et tout mène à l'archéologie).

Presque dix ans de recherches depuis, et je reste toujours persuadée que c'est un phénomène de mode qui a poussé les populations jomons à adopter la culture Yayoi...
